Finding That One Thing

By Merian Redman

I have been dabbling with the internet and making some money, not enough to live on, for a while now. I feel I can make more from the internet. I am just not quite connected. I am just off-base by a little, I hope.

I have youtube videos of motocross, mainly and they get some volume of hits. I have some in the 4 digit views and when these numbers rise I get really excited they might make it into the Google world for advertisements.

I have some blogs on Blogger.com. These are on motocross, recipes, shopping, health, women issues, life stories, etc. I have not generated enough traffic to these sites, however I have qualified to Google Network Affiliate advertisements. This is fun to place ads in my blogs. Commission Junction also has accepted my sites.

I have how-to articles on Infobarrel.com and Hubpages.com. These seem to pay better and have more traffic than Blogger.com.

I have pictures on Fotolia.com, I do Webanswers.com, and I have joined every group link on every site I join.

While I have more stuff out there, I just need the one thing that will take on a life of it's own. I feel like I can do this. Just need more tweaking.

Searching for the missing tweak that I need to watch something take off and soar.

I have not purchased my own domain yet. I am waiting to see what takes off. Maybe that is my hold up.

Now that I have more time to spend on the internet I get anxious and obsessed.....searching for the link...the spark...the connection to the one thing that will take off.

Thank you for sharing this intel, Merian. You are faced with the many of the same challenges that hold "we" ecommerce people back.
I would say, pick a niche market, build a website,(not a freebe), and start generating traffic with relative articles and a blog site.
It's good to see you back.
Best wishes.
Frederick

Hi, Merian,
A word of EXTREME caution - you are a part of what is considered a 'desperate' niche. Internet sharketers love people who feel that they are 'just a nudge' away from success because they can trap them into a cycle of buying their crap.
It seems that you have an income that is based mainly on the advertising revenue that your visitors create.
I think one of the first things you should do is secure your Blogger blogs. I have seen too many people lose their Blogger blogs for no apparent reason and there seems little future in handing over the copyright of your content to Google.
By using WordPress you will be able to utilise some great plug-ins to improve SEO and advertising placement. Frederick is right when he says you should build a web site of your own (ie. BUY A DOMAIN) and bring as much activity under one roof as you can. I do not attempt to make money from http://www.askoldcoot.info but it might give you some ideas of just how you could create a massive site with several niches.

Hi Merian.
I agree with Frederick and "theoldcoot" you really need to have your own website to be successful. In the past I have seen my free websites suddenly disappear for no reason.

If you have good hosting, (I highly recommend "Hostgator",) you can set up a Wordpress site in just a few minutes through cpanel. Wordpress is more than just a blog, it is a great content manager. There are hundreds of free themes and plugins, which will give you all the functionality you need when you need it.

Don`t give up your free websites though, because Google spents a lot of time there and it's easy to get indexed. Instead use free sites to create backlinks to your main website.

"The Old Coot" is right when he warns you about the "Sharketers". there is a lot crap being released at the moment, don't get caught up in their propaganda. There is plenty of free information about marketing on the internet if you just search for it. After all, that is where most of the "Sharketers" get it from.

I you feel you need to buy more information products, look on the "Warrior Forum" first. Any scams are quickly reported there, and most of the members are willing to give help if you need it.

CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY

Thank you for your response. My place of employment is closing it's doors this month. I will have lots of time on my hands and I really want to turn my energy towards the internet world. Here's to reinventing yourself at 50!

I think the idea to making money online is not just to have "one thing" but to have multiple things all working together.

Oh and BTW you can take your Qondio authenticate code off your blog now. They know it's yours now.
